tonight, i went to a red sox game with my dad at fenway park! it’s always nice spending time with my pops: eating peanuts, talking a little baseball, counting pitches, booing at bad calls, singing ‘take me out to the ball game’ while swaying together as music blares over the loudspeakers. thankfully they won 12-5 against the tampa bay rays (even though any effort after this game means pretty much nothing since we’re so many games back in the AL or for the wild card).

in any case, i had a point to make: i admit that i try not to judge people by what they’re wearing, but tonight i just couldn’t help it. which leads me to a need to air my grievances: why do some women choose to dress provocatively at a baseball game? for instance, i saw several girls/women tonight who honestly looked like they had no business being at a baseball game to begin with. they were dressed for a club – where there would probably be dancing – dirty dancing. annnnd ok, ok. i’m sure most of you would tell me, “it’s obvious why they do that – because they want attention. especially from men, who statistically speaking, make up most of the fan base at a baseball game” or “maybe they were going out after?” fair enough. i can see both sides, but personally i find it:

annoying. distracting. fake. unnecessary. ridiculous.

to me, a baseball game is a place where all people can come together and enjoy america’s past time — HOPEFULLY, without having to put on makeup, wear a skanky shirt, almost nothing below, and topped off with a pair of unrealistic pumps/heels/wedges. maybe some feel most comfortable when dressed as described above, but really. heels? to a game? walking through a gross peanut shell, spilled beer, and recently gum-chewed floor? gross. and don’t call me jealous. i’m totally up for dressing sexy for a night out with the girls or my boyfriend, but to a sporting event? not unless you’re a paid escort (if you know what i mean).

my advice? STOP. you’re totally trying way too hard. how about i show you the ropes with a good ol’ pair of sneakers, shorts, and a vintage sox t-shirt. i’d even throw in a big soft sweatshirt when the game heads into the bottom of the 7th. see? now you’re keeping with the direction of sporting ‘fashion’ by supporting your team and yet you can still be a ‘comfortable-sexy’ and won’t stand out like a sore thumb.

try it. you never know. maybe you’ll meet a guy who doesn’t mind that you’re in a t-shirt… i’ll even go ahead & bet that he’ll think it’s sexier that you’re just enjoying the game instead of worrying about how you look!

how it started.

i grew up in wellesley, ma with a brother, danny, who is only a year and 5 months younger than me. i wanted to copy or at least be a part of everything he did! whether it was little league baseball, karate classes, or wearing basketball shorts and sneakers, i wanted to be there. i was [and still am] influenced by his style and interests. i can’t help it. and it’s not that i don’t have my own sense of direction, but i like taking inspiration from everyone in my life. i love certain things about my friends fashion and other things about my boyfriends. i’m influenced by my mothers sense of style and by the random people who walk by me on the street. and it’s great. i take a little here, a little there.

as a result, my style is all over the place [but that's how i like it]. i looooove shoes. sneakers, pumps, booties, boots, sandals, stillettos. i looooove dresses. any style, any kind: cocktail dresses, gowns, short, tight, flowers, crazy prints, halters, strapless, full. i love a good pair of jeans, a sick hat, and a few key pieces of jewelry to make the whole outfit work. annnd i looooove bags. purses, clutches, shoulder bags. gah. i just can’t get enough.
